Gotham's Goddesses

Heidi Klum
LIVING IN Iowa? Ha-Ha. Montana? Brrrrr. New Mexico? Is that even cool? Not to be a snob (OK, we are), but New York is where the supermodels chill out. So we started taking fan photos of them.

So far it's been all thanks to Victoria's Secret. Every time they bring out one of their models, it's open to the public.

First was Heidi Klum. Then Giselle Bundchen in December 2000 and Daniela Pestova in February 2001.

Heidi gave me the time of day at Victoria's Secret on April 13, 2000. She was debuting a new bra. Posing as "web site reporters" my pals and I managed to sneak in and get some photos, autographs, and of course, bras.

Heidi was at the Victoria's Secret shop on Fifth Avenue and 19th Street to deliver the first batch of the New Natural Liquid Miracle Bra. It was a limited release and hundreds of people turned up to get their hands on the $48 bra -- and get autographs. Heidi showed them off.

The New Natural Liquid Miracle Bra was a big deal, and Heidi told us about the "reinvention of the padded bra" -- as if she needs to wear one. The thing is filled with water.

Heid held up The New Natural Liquid Miracle Bra, which was in the movie Erin Brokovich (hey, we got a press release, as we were "writers" on some "assignment"). Heidi patiently signed away all day. See the autograph here. The superstar was kind enough to sell us the new bra for our gal pals.

I asked Heidi what kind of water is in the New Liquid Miracle Bra. "It's a secret," she says with that sexy accent. She liked my question though, and I scribbled notes like mad. Getting to ask questions of Heidi was easy. Getting a straight answer was hard. She didn't know what the heck was in the bra, some kind of water and oil mix? The cups of the bra have water-filled inner pockets that warm to the body's temperature adding a full cup size to the bustline.

Giselle was tough. It was freezing cold. We had to wait outside for more than an hour. It wasn't that great of a press event, but it was the first one at the brand-new Victoria's Secret in Manhattan, on 67th and Broadway. It's a beautiful store.

We hurried inside for photos. However, it was rush, rush, so we only got the one. But Giselle was nice and we got an autograph.

In February 2001, Daniela Pestova was at the same store. She's the Sports Illustrated cover model from 2000. We had to ask her about that! She also commented, "Kevin, that's some fancy camera you have!" Right, and it was hard to focus too.

Thank you, V.S., for the supermodels.
