NYCBP Is Closed For Business

Where did NYCBP go?

I took the site down on Nov. 16, 2007. It launched in November 1998, so it came close to making it a full decade online. These are the reasons I took the site down:

Apathy Part I -- Not enough community participation. There was no community being built by the message boards. There was never any active discussions or news that warranted them to be kept open.

Apathy Part II -- No user participation in photo galleries. With the exception of two members, the only two, nobody contributed any new photos to the (easy to use) photo galleries. These photo galleries were programmed and put together for users to easily submit photos. Except for 2 guys, nobody else did.

Apathy Part III –- In nine years, only three bar owner/managers said to me, “Thank you for including us on NYCBP and sending us business.” However, many bartenders thanked me and appreciated being on the site. This site was never about making money for me. But some credit from some bar owners would have been nice for sending so many customers to you over the last nine years.

Another reason is that managing the site is extremely time-consuming. In 2004-2005 I took time off from NYCBP to write a book. I am currently endeavoring to write the next one, and free time is not something I have a lot of. Especially when the site generates apathy among visitors.

I am sick of dumb-asses using my content, photos, and info for their own purposes. You know who you are. And to the guy who made t-shirts with my NYCBP photographs: You could have at least sent me one, you big prick.

Finally, I want to go out and do something different. I had a great time running the site and made many friends. It is now time to do something new.

I am going to keep the blog up for a little while longer, and see how it goes. I enjoy blogging about the bars. If you want to bitch about the site going away, do it here.

In closing, I want to thank all the loyal friends and supporters of NYCBP over the years. I’ve had a terrific time with you bartenders, at the bars, on booze cruises, at your parties, your weddings, and more.

If you are sad NYCBP is gone, you really have nobody to blame except... yourself.
